Breaking on the Discovery Channel’s Time Warp
Posted on December 24, 2008The Discovery Channel recently had b-boys Xcel and TBA from Problems Kru breaking on an episode of Time Warp. They recorded the dancing, slowed down the replay and then broke it all down (no pun intended) scientifically. How scientific? Well, they used the terms “gravitational potential energy”, “center of mass” and “dynamic stability” to describe how the b-boys did windmills:

Solving puzzles while breaking - Go Go Break Steady on Xbox Live
Posted on December 16, 2008There’s a new game on Xbox Live called Go Go Break Steady where you solve puzzles while breaking. The game looks pretty interesting and as a promo, the makers of the game wanted to see if it could also be done in real life. They invited a bunch of breakers and poppers to come in and dance for 2 rounds. After a round of normal dancing, they were given various puzzles and prompted to try and dance while solving them. They came up with a lot of creative solutions. Check it out:

More breakploitation from the 80’s: Vans Breakers
Posted on December 13, 2008A few weeks ago, I wrote about breakploitation, the 80’s exploitation of the new breaking “fad” that popped up in the 80’s. I just found out that Vans had also jumped on the bandwagon, creating special breaking shoes called “Breakers”.
You have to love and hate this ad. From the guy holding the boombox sideways to the tag-line “Breakers - Only for the Elite!”, this ad is another horribly awesome example of corporate monetization of breaking.

Just do it: Nike + Breaking = Great Ads
Posted on December 4, 2008Remember that Nike basketball campaign with the dope dribbling, tricks and breaking, that came out some year’s back?
Back then, Nike was just flirting with the idea of using breaking in their commercials but now they have a full-blown relationship. Thankfully, they’re not exploiting it like companies did in the 80’s; their campaigns are a lot more tasteful.
